DSC07754“Gender Sensitivity Education (GSE) – Training of Trainers,   was organized from 19th to 21st September, 2014  at Don Bosco Navajeevan, Ramanthapur , Hyderabad, Telangana by Salesian Family commission (SFC) in collaboration with Salesian Social Forum (SFF) and Don Bosco YaR Forum (DB NF YaR).  This is the second of its kind organized by Salesian Family Commission, to mark the Bicentenary of Don Bosco who championed the cause of  rights of the young people of his times and took initiatives to provide safe ambient for the young of both genders.

The  fourty participants of the training programme were educators from the Salesian Family, schools, young at risk centers, social workers and NGO representatives from Andhra Pradesh and Telagana. Fr.Thomas Pallithanam SDB, Director, PARA with a team of resource persons engaged the participants during the workshop of GSE.

After eliciting the expectations of the participants the resource persons clarified the concepts of “Human Rights and Equity“ through various activity based programmes. Dr. J. Lalitha Assistant Prof. Dept of Education Osmania University, clarified the concepts of Sexuality & Gender, Gender Roles & Stereotypes, Productive Role, Reproductive Role, Community Management Role Community Politics Role, Triple Role, Gender Needs and Sex Disaggregated Data.

Fr. John Tharakan, Director of OOTA, presented a new way of being in terms of Gender and Equality through role play and group exercise. Later he elaborated on Respecting and managing boundaries and Gender sensitivity Ethics.

Ms. Hemalalitha the High Court Advocate, dealt with the Constitution, Rights and Laws related to Women. She highlighted the relevant articles of the constitutions, types of Rights and issues of Child Marriage, love Marriage, Dowry demands and related matters. Her crisp and clear presentation with the help of concrete examples was well appreciated by the participants. Ms. P. Shyamala Devi from CWC, enumerated on Policies & Programmes, Institutional Mechanisms for providing support services. Dr. Sr. Lissy, Member of National Core Committee, NDWM shared her experiences of addressing  women problems and violence at the grass root level.

Fr. Thomas Pallithanam spoke about the need to mobilize community support in preventing violence against women and the need to accompany the victims and witnesses in various cases. He spoke of the need to network with other like minded organizations to address growing incidents of violence.

This workshop was organized and coordinated by Fr. Noel Maddhichetty, SDB, Regional Delegate of the Salesian Family in collaboration with  is Don Bosco YaR Forum. He thanked Fr. Vijay Bhaskar Thathireddy the vice provincial of the Province of Hyderabad for his support in organizing the Seminar and Fr. Sudhakar Bellamkonda for hosting the seminar at Don Bosco Navajeevan, Ramanthapur.

In the valedictory function, Fr. Vijaya Bhaskar Thathi Reddy, Vice Provincial of Hyderabad spoke and thanked Fr Noel Maddhichetty the National Delegate for Salesian Family for choosing the Hyderabad as the venue which gave opportunity for many from the Province to participate. He appreciated the resource persons who were experts in the field of Gender Sensitivity and the active participation of the participants. The GSE workshop concluded with issuing of certificates of participation in the training program.
