In the aftermath of the devastating floods that swept through Hyderabad last month, the Salesian Province of St. Joseph, Hyderabad, in collaboration with Don Bosco Network (DBN), took the lead in extending timely assistance to hundreds of affected families on October 13, 2025.
With the generous support of international Salesian organizations — Missiones Salesianas / JyD, Missioni Don Bosco Torino, Don Bosco Jugendhilfe Weltweit (DBJuWe), Don Bosco Mission/Don Bosco Mondo, DBAid Ireland, VIS, Salesian Missions Poland, SAVIO Slovakia, Don Bosco Foundation Malta, Fondation Don Bosco Paris (France), Don Bosco Mission Austria, and Korea Mission Office — as well as the Local Catholic Religious India (CRI) – Hyderabad Unit, and St. Montfort (PIN) School, the initiative provided 600 relief kits to flood-affected families on Sunday.
The effort came in response to the widespread devastation caused by torrential rains and the sudden release of water from the Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar reservoirs, which inundated several low-lying areas including Moosarambagh, Chaderghat, and parts of the Old City. Thousands of families were displaced, and major infrastructure such as the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) was submerged during the deluge.
The relief distribution was meticulously coordinated by Bosco Seva Kendra (BSK), the Planning and Development Office (PDO) of the INH Province, in partnership with local school teachers, CRI members, and civil society organizations. The Salesian team, led by Fr. Thomas Santiagu, SDB, along with the Don Bosco Network team, was deeply appreciated for their financial support, coordination, and compassionate service.
Speaking after the event, volunteers and local collaborators shared that the initiative was a true example of Salesian solidarity in action — bringing hope, dignity, and comfort to those still recovering from one of Hyderabad’s worst floods in recent memory.
