Nalgonda – January 14,2013: Forty five students of Don Bosco Degree College under the guidance of Fr. Anand, the Director, Fr. Balashowry, the Principal of Don Bosco Academy and Mr. A. Ravi Kumar, the NSS Coordinator of Mahatma Gandhi University, reported themselves at Mamillagudem village as a part of a weeklong National Service Scheme (NSS) on 9th January. The students have actively taken part in this programme with the help preparatory classes in the academy. These classes imparted the students with moral values, knowledge about rural government schemes, old age pensions, self help groups, and agricultural loans etc. Guiding principles like “See, Learn & Act” are also instilled into the young minds before they could take plunge into the mission.
The students troop in the village is divided into three groups who organized themselves and adopted the entire village to educate the villagers on the causes of viral diseases, unemployment, infant deaths, alcohol consumption, child marriages, superstitions etc. The programme on the otherhand enabled the students to come in contact with the downtrodden realities of the villages and the dignity of labour. As a part of the programme students have also taken part in clean and green program which includes cleaning the water tanks, public taps, sweeping the roads in the village etc. In the presence of Mr. Majid, the village secretary of Mamillagudem, Fr Anand, the Director and Fr. Balashowry, the principal of Don Bosco Academy a valedictory function was held as soon as the students reached safely back to the campus on 13th evening.
