Don Bosco Academy, Nalgonda, on the occasion of international women’s day, animated a seminar exclusively for the degree and PG girls of the institution. The programme is organized in co-ordination with the NSS (National Service Scheme) Cell of the Academy. Fr. Anand, the Director of the academy, was the chief guest of the day. Fr. Balashowry, the Principal and Sr. Bharati were the other guests of honour who spoke extensively on women empowerment, rights and other topics.
Expatiating the role of Indian women in nation’s growth Fr Anand said that “The international women’s day is not about asserting the superiority of one gender over the other but it is about a life of complementarity.” Fr. Balashowry reiterated that women were as competent as men and given the opportunity, they would prove their mettle.
A great deal of this seminar is also about pooling the opinions of the students on current challenges of Indian woman. Girls participated in group discussions and shared their reflections during the general body meeting held in the evening. They expressed their views on the growing rate of violence on women and felt that laws should be made and implemented more stringently in order to control the heinous crimes. The seminar came to a conclusion with a pledge made by the participants.
