April 13: Women are the backbone of the family. Keeping this in mind Bosco ITDS, Don Bosco Mission, Narsiptanam has designed a programme called MACS (Mutually Aided Co-operative Society) to empower the women of tribal villages around Narsipatnam Municipality in Visakhapatnam district. In the presence of 250 villagers Fr. M. Rayappa, the In-charge of Don Bosco Mission, Peda Boddepalle on Saturday officially launched another MACS at Tazangi, a tribal village on the hills of Peda Boddepalle. There were 25 members in this newly established society. Mr. Rajarao, a retired teacher of the village and the chief guest of the day in his speech encouraged these members to strengthen and organize their families efficiently with the help of MACS. This day came into reality with the help of Mr. Prabhakare and the Cluster leaders of Bosco ITDS. Nearly Rs 150,000 was given as loan to the 11 members of this new MACS.
This pioneering initiative which had its humble beginning back in the year 2006 with few villages now grew into a mighty tree containing 75 villages. Reaching out to more than 500 people directly these MACS expanded their activities over the years by establishing women education centers, tailoring centers, night schools and women self help groups etc. Thanks to the selfless service rendered to these villages and kudos to the pioneers who are behind the success of this programme.
