The Salesians at Chandur and the FMA community at Maria Niketan woke up on 23rd April to find the statues of Mary Help of Christians in both the campuses broken down by some miscreants in the night. The six feet statue of Mary Help of Christians at the gate to the Don Bosco Campus was knocked down using a granite stone. The pieces of the statue were found scattered in front of the gate when the Salesians came to open the it in the early hours of Tuesday.
The statue at the Maria Niketan Convent gate too was broken down in a similar fashion. The head and arms of the blessed Virgin and the child Jesus were desecrated and destroyed. Apparently it seem to be a pre-planned attack by some anti Christian fanatics as the as the two intuitions are located two kilometers away in the village. The police swung into action as soon as they were informed, they visited the sight and collected evidence. The dog squad too was pressed into action. P. Vijaykumar, The D.S.P. of Nalgonda personally supervised the investigations and informed that he would bring the culprits to book. People of the locale thronged to see these brutal acts while the heads of the local institutions visited the communities to express their solidarity. Mgr Govindu Joji, the Bishop of Nalgonda condemned these acts and requested the christian community to be strong in faith in these hostile moments.
