June 25: Don Bosco Communications of  South Asia Executive Council meeting to leverage the communicative potentials of the region was held at Don Bosco Provincial house, Kolkata. This two day programme was animated by Fr Antony Earathara – the South Asian Delegate for Social Communications and Fr. Thomas Ellicherail – the Provincial In-charge of Social Communications at the SPCSA level. 10 delegates from various provinces of South Asia region attended this meet. Fr Y. Kalyan Kumar  represented this meet from the Province of Hyderabad. Decisive steps about closely fabricated networking and increasing the competency of the websites which will reflect the Salesian spirit through media were discussed in this meeting.

Fr Filiberto GONZALES, the Salesian General Councillor for Social Communications in his message through mail stressed on "making communications an integral part of every other activity and dimension of our youth ministry by putting our energies together to make a national impact in the field of social communications". Reiterating his words, Fr Maria Arokiam, the Regional Counsellor for South Asia in his letter insisted that Communication is all about producing the ideas that shake the world. He said: the Salesian, realizing the power of communication propagates the good news without any confines.

On the first day the congregation discussed extensively on moving from individual efforts to networking. Following the call of Fr Filiberto the discussions forged in the way to create synergy in four areas viz. animation, education, information and production. The effective management of Salesian information and news to ensure technically sound, reliable, and adaptable Salesian web site to face the changing needs and advancing technology were part of these discussions.

The Executive Council also decided to have the forthcoming General Assembly at Kochi on the theme “New Media and Salesian Youth Ministry“ from 15 -18 October. The Meeting is expected to be participated by all the Provincial Delegates for Social Communications and other confreres who are engaged in the ministry of Social Communications in the South Asian region in different capacities.

Delegates from different Provinces made proposals for General Chapter 27 with regard to the Communication Ministry of the Congregation. The members also presented the reports about the communication activity in their provinces during the past two years. These discussions were made as a part of micro level evaluative process in order to draw the lines of action for the coming year. The delegates also collectively studied the projects and plans to be implemented by the congregation's communicative ministry in the coming year to arrive at a better understanding of the priorities of the congregation. During the meeting the DBCSA Executive Council unanimously elected Fr. Joaquim Fernandes of Mumbai Province as the Secretary of DBCSA for a second term, from 2013 to 2016.  The Provincial Delegates who took part in the meeting were: Fr. Joaquim Fernandes (INB), Fr. Jacob Iruppakkattu (INC), Fr. Paul Mypan (IND), Fr. Johnson Parackal (ING), Fr. Kalyan Kumar Yandava (INH), Fr. Gilbert Choondal (INK), Fr. Harris Pakkam (INM), and Fr. Joseph Pulinthanath (INS). With the suggestions and the lines of action drawn during the meetings the delegates left for their respective provinces resolving to communicate through closely fabricated networking.
