The Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival (DGYFF) 2024 brought together young hearts and minds from across the globe on October 17 and 18, 2024. Organized by the Social Communication Department of the Salesians of Don Bosco, this unique event aimed to inspire and engage youth through powerful stories on screen.
In the Province of St. Joseph, Hyderabad, screenings of selected films took place across four institutions: Don Bosco School Bandlaguda, Don Bosco College Motinagar, Don Bosco College Chandur, and Don Bosco College Pedapoddepally. Each venue provided students a platform to reflect on meaningful themes presented in the films, fostering dialogue and encouraging them to think critically about the world around them.
One of these young voices, T. Akshara, a 9th-grade student of Don Bosco School Bandlaguda, took part in the event and was inspired to pen her own reflections. In the following write-up, she shares her personal experience, insights, and the impact the festival has had on her. We invite you to journey with Akshara as she revisits moments of inspiration and newfound perspectives gained through her participation in this memorable festival.
It was indeed a great opportunity that we were given to watch films from the Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival at our school on the theme “I Have A Dream – Youth & Climate Change – Making Mother Earth Cleaner & Greener.” The film festival was really inspiring and has left a long-lasting impression. ‘Shades of Rag Pickers’ was especially emotional since this film is not fictional and had people who had truly experienced the hardships of dealing with the garbage problems of cities as well as the indifference of society towards resolving these issues. Each rag picker’s story was different. This particular movie took everyone through an emotional ride.
The efforts of the film makers towards making these films has truly inspired us to work on finding solutions to the problems created by global warming and environmental pollution and to bring about change. So great was the impact of the festival on us that it inspired us to start garbage picking in our surroundings and to improve ways to reduce waste in order to see a great future where the air we breathe becomes pure and our children / our future generations could see beautiful forests and many other shades of nature. Finally beyond being inspired, we need to take actions to protect our environment which we need to pass on to generations so that we can see the change that should start within us.
