The Salesian Province of St. Joseph, Hyderabad, convened its two-day leaders’ meet on November 26 and 27, bringing together over 45 leaders, including Rectors, in-charges, and commission heads.
In his inaugural address, Fr. Thomas welcomed the participants and extended a special felicitation to Fr. Tony Pellissery for his contributions. The first day featured insightful sessions by Fr. Biju Michael, Regional Councillor, and Fr. Pellissery, who detailed the ambitious South Asian Salesian project, “With the Youth to Eradicate Poverty: Reduction of Multidimensional Poverty.” Fr. Pellissery addressed several queries from the leaders, providing clarity on the project’s goals and implementation strategies.
The evening session opened the floor to discussions, where leaders expressed concerns about local challenges. Fr. Thomas provided guidance and solutions, reinforcing the province’s commitment to its mission. The day concluded with a special Holy Eucharist, during which Fr. Vanga Joseph, a missionary bound for Papua New Guinea, was felicitated, and prayers were offered for his mission.
Day two delved into the presentation of key documents derived from the Salesian Youth Ministry: Frame of Reference. Fr. Parry Sharath highlighted works and services for youth in vulnerable and excluded situations, Fr. S. Rajesh presented the framework for vocational training centers, and Fr. Y. Joji introduced the document on Salesian Oratories and Youth Centers. Each presentation was followed by open discussions, allowing for collaborative refinement and clarification.
The meet concluded with an extensive dialogue on enhancing the visibility of youth ministry initiatives and addressing the challenges faced in establishing robust youth outreach programs in all Salesian houses.
