The Slum to Stadium sports and cultural event held on 16th February 2025, was a grand success, bringing together nearly 1,000 children from 100 villages in and around Vijayawada organized by Don Bosco Navajeevan and Nirmala High School. These children, hailing from the most marginalized communities across five districts, were given an extraordinary opportunity to participate in a large-scale event that aimed to nurture their talents and dreams.
For 90% of these children, this was their first experience witnessing such a massive gathering of friends and competitors. It was also their first opportunity to showcase their talents on a big platform. The event provided a unique space for them to explore their potential, build confidence, and take pride in their abilities.
Many children who won medals for the first time were overwhelmed by their victory, while others were overjoyed just to be part of this remarkable program. Some children extremely excelled in dance competitions—those who could not run on the ground gave an outstanding performance on the stage. The smiles and joy on their faces were immeasurable, reflecting the profound impact of this event on their lives.
The dream of bringing children from slums to a stadium has become a reality, thanks to the unwavering support and generosity of several individuals and organizations. A special mention goes to the Nirmala High School sisters, whose cooperation and generosity played a crucial role in making this event a success. Their support, along with the dedication of Navajeevan Bala Bhavan staff, Nirmala High School teachers, and students, ensured the smooth execution of the program.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our esteemed donors, including the Ramky Foundation, Mr. Gokaraju Gangaraju, and Dr. Chimata Yugendar, for their vital contributions in funding this event. Their generosity has given these children an experience that will inspire them to strive for greater heights.
Don Bosco Navajeevan Bala Bhavan and Nirmala High School firmly believe that some of these children will go on to make their mark in professional sports and fulfil their dreams of playing in stadiums in the future. This event has not only provided them with a platform but has also ignited a spark of hope and ambition in their hearts.
We look forward to continuing this initiative and creating more opportunities for children from marginalized communities, helping them realize their full potential through sports and cultural activities.
