Fr Thathireddy Vijaya Bhasker SDB, a senior member of the Salesian Province of St Joseph, Hyderabad, has been appointed Personal Secretary to Fr Fabio Attard, the newly elected Rector Major of the Salesian Congregation.
Fr Thathireddy, 51, brings with him decades of pastoral, academic, and administrative experience. Born in 1974 in the Diocese of Nalgonda to Innareddy and Mariamma, he is one of three siblings. He began his Salesian journey at the aspirantate in Gunadala in 1987 and made his first profession in 1993, followed by perpetual profession in 1999.
Ordained in 2003 by Most Rev. Marampudi Joji after theological studies at Kristu Jyoti College, Bangalore, Fr Thathireddy later earned a Doctorate in the Philosophy of Communication from the Pontifical Salesian University (UPS), Rome, in 2009. He also holds postgraduate degrees in secular disciplines.
From 2010 to 2015, he served as Rector of the Provincial House and Vice Provincial of the Hyderabad Province. He was later part of the Youth Ministry Department at the Salesian Generalate in Rome, working closely with Fr Fabio Attard. In 2016, he was appointed Provincial of the Hyderabad Province, serving until 2022. Since then, he has been serving as Rector of Colle Don Bosco in Italy.
Fluent in Telugu, English, and Italian, Fr Thathireddy is widely respected for his leadership and deep commitment to Salesian values. His new role as Personal Secretary places him at the heart of the Congregation’s global mission, assisting the Rector Major in guiding the Salesian family worldwide.
