Hyderabad, May 23, 2025 — In a solemn and spirit-filled ceremony, 28 young Salesian confreres renewed their religious vows at Don Bosco Provincial House, Hyderabad, reaffirming their commitment to the Salesian charism and mission. The Eucharistic celebration, held on May 23, was presided over by Fr Thomas Santiagu SDB, Provincial of the St. Joseph Province, Hyderabad.
The renewal marked a significant milestone in the lives of these young religious, who stood before God and the Church to recommit themselves to a life of pastoral service, community living, and fidelity to their calling. The celebration was anchored in the Gospel verse from John 15:16: “You did not choose me, but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit — fruit that will last.”
In his homily, Fr Santiagu invoked the image of the Good Shepherd, drawing from both Scripture and Salesian spirituality. He posed a thought-provoking question to the assembly: “Can lost sheep lead the Church or the Congregation?” This call for introspection underscored his message of remaining grounded in one’s vocation and being authentic shepherds for today’s Church.
“The Church today needs shepherds who are found, faithful, and fearless,” Fr Santiagu emphasized, urging the young confreres to lead lives deeply rooted in Christ and the Salesian mission, especially in service to the young.
