International Women’s Day Celebrations @ Ponnur
3 Mandals (MACS)…. 30 Villages…… 300 Groups…… 3000 Members…… 3000 Families……. in – 3 years…… Women Empowerment project in progress….. in Don Bosco, Ponnur.
The International Women’s Day was celebrated in Don Bosco, Ponnur on 10th March. Mrs.Kalayani, Principal of VNR College of Engineering was chief guest of the day gave an 
inspiring talk on the occasion highlighting some of the important issues of the women in the society and how to face them boldly and courageously. She encouraged the women to give importance for the girl child’s education. She gave an inspiring message to the 300 women gathered on the occasion. Mrs. Lakshmi Suhasini, Head Mistress of Little Gems School, Ponnur addressed the gathered women on the importance of their Rights in the society. Fr. K.S. Joseph the rector of the community spoke on the importance and role of women in the family and society. Fr.P.Arul Das, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Three MACT & CS addressed the women: the importance of Savings and explained the role Salesian Congregation in Women Empowerment.
The Don Bosco Ponnur community is working for the empowerment of women through Community Based Organization (Self Help Groups) in three Mandals: The Chaitanya MACS, Pittlavanipalem. The Mother Teresa MACS, Bapatla and The Kakumanu Mother Teresa MACS, Kakumanu. The three mandals are registered under government Mahila Mutually Aided Cooperative Thrift & Credit Society Ltd.,. (MACT&CS). The Chief Guest and others distributed the prizes for the members who won in different games conducted on the occasion of women’s day. All the participants had sumptuous meal at the end of the function. The function came to end with National Anthem.
