VISAKHAPATNAM, August 13: Don Bosco Navajeevan, Visakhapatnam, is a home for street, orphaned, poor, migrant, tribal, and marginalized boys. It provides them with education, counselling, and rehabilitation facilities, along with daily essentials such as food, shelter, clothing, and stationery. Since its inception in 1998, Don Bosco Navajeevan has reached out to thousands of children in need, reuniting many with their families and rehabilitating others through academic education, vocational training, skill development, and career guidance.

In 2000, as part of its women empowerment ministry, Don Bosco Navajeevan began skill training programs for girls and women in the slums of Visakhapatnam. Training is offered in tailoring, beautician courses, hospitality, and computer skills. After completing their training, the women are either placed in jobs or supported in self-employment initiatives. At present, training centres are active in Ferry Road, Old Post Office, Dayananda Colony, Gnanapuram, and Jalaripeta.

The latest batch of 110 young women successfully completed their four-month training (April 2024 – July 2024), and a Course Certificate Distribution Ceremony was held on August 13 at Don Bosco, Old Post Office, Visakhapatnam. The Chairperson of the Visakhapatnam District Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Smt. Radha, was the Chief Guest of the event. She encouraged the women to continue upgrading their skills and to lead dignified lives.

Fr. P. Arul Das SDB, Rector of Don Bosco Visakhapatnam, urged the trainees to pursue updated skills and motivate others to learn and live joyfully. Sr. Rosaline from Bridgettine Convent was the Guest of Honour. Certificates were awarded to all trainees, and prizes were given to those who excelled in record preparation and practical examinations. Fr. Arul also appreciated the dedicated efforts of staff members Ms. Prabhavathi, Ms. Anitha, Ms. Kranthi, and Mr. Sathish for their commitment in training the women. Special thanks were extended to Sr. Pearly, coordinator of the skill training programme.

Don Bosco Navajeevan, Visakhapatnam, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Fr. John Prakash, Chancellor and Parish Priest of St. Peter’s Cathedral, for providing space for the training programme at Gnanapuram. His support has ensured that women have a safe environment to learn, gain confidence, and move towards self-reliance.
