On the occasion of International Day for Street Children (12th April) Don Bosco Navajeevan homes in cities had organized for the first time a programme for children living on the streets specially in the premises of railway stations in collaboration with South Central Railways, Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police of Secunderabad and Kachiguda Railway Stations respectively.
The staff of DBNJ has planned the day in order to interact with street children and to spend time with them by playing party games and to talk to them about their living conditions. Fr. Sudhakar, Director himself took initiative to organize balloon games and other party game competitions for these children. The children enjoyed well with games and some of them showed interest to come to DBNJ to continue their education or non-formal training. After the games, prizes were distributed along with sweets. Since the programme was organized on the platform itself many travellers waiting for the train witnessed the event.
The Director and staff have invited the officials of Railways, GRP and RPF to address the children. While talking to the children, Fr. Sudhakar, Director of DBNJ explained the importance of the day and he quoted the recent data of street children living on the streets. International Street Children day started in the year 2011. He said that there are about 11 million street children in India itself and from the recent survey conducted by the Young at Risk (YaR) National Forum also affirms the increase of the street children at nationwide. Mr. Narsimha Reddy Sub-Inspector of police shared his own childhood experience and struggles that he underwent to become police Inspector.
Fr. Sudhakar thanked all the officials for their support and cooperation in rescuing street children to given them meaningful future and unforgettable childhood. Sri. Narsimha Reddy Sub Inspector of Police and Sri Riyaz Sub Inspector of Police from Government Railway Police were present in Kachiguda Railway Station. And Sri. Kranthi Kumar, Sub inspector of Police from Railway Protection Force and Sri. Mahesh Kumar from Government Railway Police were present from Secunderabad. He also thanked all the staff of Navajeevan who were involved in organizing the event in both the Railways stations.
