Don Bosco Human Resource and Development Centre (DBHRDC), Gagillapur, 9 September 2020: The economic emancipation of women is a requirement for sustainable development. Women manage multiplying development efforts only through Gender equality and empowerment. On several platforms, Government of India has enacted various rules and regulations within the constitutional structure in improving female representation in diverse professions. Similarly, the Salesians cater to the training of multiple skills in women to overcome monotony and dreariness. At Present, a majority of female workforce in India is unskilled and untrained. Skill is a link between employment and labour force. Consequently, Skill development and training is multiple skills are necessary in improving the quality of being suitable for paid work and earning prospects for women and for enriching sustainable rural development and incomes.

DBHRDC set up a Sewing Training Centre years before to make women self-sufficient and confident. This year, notwithstanding Covid-19 pandemic, the difficulties and constraints, the Salesians at Gagillapur offer women new opportunities in addition to improved status.

As scheduled, the inauguration of the Training in Tailoring course was planned on 9 September at 11.30 am. Fr Thathireddy Vijaya Bhaskar, Provincial, Fr Bellamkonda Sudhakar, Director, Bosco Seva Kendra, Fr Sarath Parri, Ast Director – BSK and in charge-DBHRDC, Fr Rajesh Salagala, Fr Chinnappa Godugunur, Fr Lingampalli Ashok and Fr Charan Boddu were present for the inaugural ceremony. There were 16 girls who registered in the course. The Training in Tailoring course will last for two months.

Fr Provincial unveiled the tailoring course with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Fr Sudhakar addressed the gathering and welcomed all the dignitaries, students, and staff. He said that self-confidence and will-power could certainly enhance to begin anew in learning a trade. Fr Provincial in his message encouraged the girls who willingly volunteered to learn skills in tailoring, that Covid-19 pandemic is not an obstacle to discover the inner talents and make use of new opportunities that the world offers today. He said that he was indeed happy for their courage and audacity; an ardent desire to learn tricks of the trade.

Later, the dignitaries and staff have distributed the tailoring tools to all the candidates as part of the curriculum. The girls have performed several cultural items as a sign of delight and commencement of the course. The inaugural ceremony ended with a vote of thanks by Fr Sarath Parri.
