HISTORY

The Salesians of Don Bosco were asked to take over the existing Karl Vocational Training Center in 1990, by the Bishop of Kurnool diocese, Rt. Rev. Msgr.Mathew Cheriankunnel. However due to the difficulties in the diocese, we were told to wait for another year. The following year, the Salesians took charge of the institution. After studying various possibilities of development for the institution Fr. Jacob Malayatty, the vice Provincial, Fr. Chacko Thattil Rector of St. Theresa’s Hyderabad, Fr. Papaiah and Br. Dennis held a discussion with Bishop Mathew. The Salesians began residing here from the 17th May 1991.

There were three trades existing when the Salesians took charge namely welding, printing and Carpentry. The intention of the Bishop was that this institution be developed in course of time, into a full-fledged Technical Training center. Since it is the only Catholic institution of this sort in the diocese, it could cater to the poor Catholic students who are school dropouts.

In September 1991, Fr. John Kannath joined the community. Gradually the institution was given a face-lift by the hard work of the Salesians. The Salesian community is also looking after the pastoral needs of two substations of the Lourdu Matha Cathedral Parish namely Nannuru and Pasupula.

SCOPE
The scope of the institution is to impart integral formation to poor boys of the society by:

  1. To provide non-formal technical education to the school drop outs, child labourers and young at risk.
  2. To offer social, cultural, human and religious education.
  3. To impart non-formal primary education.
  4. To offer job-placement opportunities after the training.
  5. Shelter for Young at Risk at Kurnool and Guntakal towns
  6. Rendering our services to Shikari (ST) community.
