HISTORY

In 1975, the Salesians established themselves in the capital of Andhra Pradesh, accepting St. Theresa parish in Sanathnagar. Since the parish compound was too limited to allow many Salesian activities, the search was on for another place, which was found in Sultan Bagh, a property of 6.5 acres. However, due to the urban land ceiling act, only the second part of the property could be acquired immediately and it was then that in 1979, through the relentless work of Fr. John Lens, a middle school was opened in the original building in both Telugu and English media at Sultan Bagh. A shed was later built. In 1983 – 84, the then parish priest started a kindergarten and primary school at St. Theresa’s. This was moved to Sultan Bagh two years later, after constructing a suitable building. On 5th November, 1985, Sultan Bagh was erected into a regular house. The first principal of the school was Fr. Vadacherry Benedict.

On 31st January 1989, at the conclusion of the centenary year of Don Bosco, the then Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Srimathi Kumadhen Joshi, laid the foundation stone for the concrete higher secondary building, which was completed and inaugurated on 31st January 1992. On 24th April, of the same year, Andhra Pradesh became a Salesian Province, and Sultan Bagh became the provincial head quarters. During his visit to the province on 18th November, 1992, the Rector Major, Rev. Fr. Egidius Viganó blessed the foundation stone of the Bosco Institute of Electronics.

Don Bosco Degree College affiliated to Osmania University was approved in 1999. In may 2007 St. Theresa’s Parish was bifurcated and the Quasi parish of St Frances Xavier, Borabanda was established The salesians Community at Sultan bagh was assigned to the Borabanda parish and the parish attached to the community. St. Francis Xaviers Quasi Parish was erected as parish on 3, December 2007, with Rev. Fr. Chako Thattil as the Parish Priest.
