HISTORY

St. Theresa’s Church, Sanathnagar, Hyderabad – 18 was bifurcated from Khairatabad Parish on 01-07- 1973 and made into a Parish. It was permanently entrusted to the Salesians of Don Bosco on 22nd August, 1975 by very Rev. Msgr. S. Arulappa D.D., the Archbishop of Hyderabad. It was covering an area of 18 sq. Kilometers comprising of South Begumpet, Ameerpet, Yellareddyguda, Yousufguda, Sanjeevareddy Nagar, Erragadda, Borabanda, Industrial Estate, Fathenagar, Balanagar, H.M.T. Kukatpally, Jagathgirigutta. The total number of Catholics then was 1470. The first Salesian Parish Priest was Rev. Fr. John Lens and assistant was Rev. Kottekarote Joseph.

In 1978 Don Bosco Primary School was started in the Church premises and it was shifted to Sultan Bagh. And in 1979 non-formal job oriented course of Tailoring and embroidery was started. On 31st Jan, 1980, a new building for youth center, parish hall and a hostel for working class youth was inaugurated. In January 1983 a Typing Institute was started. In January 1983 a Typing Institute was started. The beautiful Calvary was blessed and inaugurated by very Rev. Msgr. S. Arulappa D.D., the Archbishop of Hyderabad on 17th April, 1987. In January, 1991, St. Theresa’s Church was renovated with a false roof.

On 29th March 1992, the new church of Mary Immaculate was blessed and inaugurated at our substation of Kukatpally and soon after it was erected as a Parish with Jagatgirigutta as its substation. On 29th June 1992 Don Bosco youth services at provincial level was officially inaugurated in the parish. On 8th July 2007, the substation Borabanda was erected and made into a parish with Rehmatnagar as its substation. The old church was demolished and the foundation for a new church was blessed and laid on 8th Dec, 2008. St. Theresa’s Parish Church was left with 700 registered Catholic families.

SCOPE

St. Theresa’s Parish is a Salesian parish and as such Salesian form of apostolate is given a prominent place

  1. Formation of the Christian families to a deeper faith life.
  2. To work for the integral formation of the youth of the parish.
  3. To work for the promotion of vocations to religious and priestly life.
  4. To reach out to the poor and marginalized in the parish community through acts of charity.
  5. To empowering of the women by giving them their due place in the parish structure.
