IMG_0909DBPH, Hyderabad 2 & 3 March: Fourteen volunteers hailing from Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Lichenstein and India, currently serving in the projects for street and tribal children and youth, met at Don Bosco Provincial House, Hyderabad for a two day animation on 2 and 3 March 2015. DSC_4981  The meeting was convened by the Vice Provincial, Fr. Thathireddy Vijaya Bhaskar who is also in-charge of the volunteers in the Province. The volunteers, mostly from abroad who render their services in the Province have the possibility of coming together twice a year to learn more about the Indian culture, the situation of young people, their roels and responsibilities, initiation process of inculturation, etc.

The Provincial, Fr. Raminedi Balaraju addressed the volunteers and briefed them about the Province and various interventions of the Province in the lives of the poor young people. He spoke to them of their roles and responsibilities. Later he DSC_4973met them individually and thanked them for their services. Fr. Bellamkonda Sudhakar, presented the situation of young people in India, paying a special attention to the street and working children. He also spoke to them about various laws protecting the children and the efforts of Don Bosco and the governments in support of the children at risk. Fr. Vice Provincial in his session invited the volunteers to share their experiences and he also facilitated an evaluation of their presence and work. Fr. Sojan Puthusseri the Economer of the Province gave certain guidelines with regard to the spiritual, social and financial contribution of the volunteers.

The volunteers also had a field visit to Navajeevan Rehabilitation centre, Ramanthapur where, aunt Frans (Vides, salesian family) from USA, gave the volunteers some tips on monthly log and reporting. Before they left for their respective places, the volunteers had a visit to the historical Charminar and had an aerial view of the city of Hyderabad from the famous Birla Temple.

The dream of encouraging local volunteers is being slowly realized. Among the fourteen volunteers, one is from India. He (Poly) took a break from his studies and chose to dedicate one year to serve the young who are poor. We hope many more young people of our country and states may be inspired to reach out to the least and the lost.  ………….BIS……………. DSC_4970
