Don Bosco, Guntur 8 March : The International Women’s Day was celebrated at BIRD, Don Bosco, Guntur on 8thth March. Shri. Modugula Venugopal Reddy, West Guntur MLA was the chief guest of the day gave an inspiring talk on the occasion highlighting some of the important issues of the women in the society and how to face them boldly and courageously.
Dr. V.Jyothi, Women’s Social Convenor, encouraged the women to give importance to the girl child’s education. She gave an inspiring message to the 300 women gathered on the occasion. Bro.Ch.Gregory, addressed the gathered women on the importance of their Rights in the society. Fr. Ch.Louis Babu, the rector of the community spoke on the importance and role of women in the family and society. Fr.P.Arul Das, the Assistant Director of Bosco Seva Kendra (BSK) addressed the women: the importance of Savings and explained the role Salesian Congregation in Women Empowerment. Fr.Y. Baly, BIRD, Director & MACS, CEO proposed the words of welcome and organized the programme.
The Don Bosco Guntur community is working for the empowerment of women through Community Based Organization (Self Help Groups) in three Mandals: The Nirmal MACS, Guntur Rural. The Mother Teresa MACS, Tadikonda and The Kranthi MACS, Guntur Urban. The three mandals are registered under government Mahila Mutually Aided Cooperative Thrift & Credit Society Ltd.. (MACT&CS). The Chief Guest and others distributed the prizes for the members who won in different games conducted on the occasion of women’s day. All the participants had sumptuous meal at the end of the function. The function came to end with National Anthem.
