19 June 2017 has turned to be a significant day to Vishwa Jyothi Don Bosco College Karunapuram as it ventured into another year of philosophical research and learning with the inauguration of the new academic year.
Holding close to hearts and minds the prayer “Flood our minds with your light O Lord”, the students of the college participated in the Inaugural Eucharistic Celebration presided over by Rev. Fr Thathireddy Vijayabhaskar the provincial of the Salesian Province of St. Joseph Hyderabad.
Rev. Fr Provincial gave a thought provoking homily and encouraged the students to be committed in their philosophical research. During the inaugural function, Fr Garlapati Kishore reminded the students that, “We must be the constant learners in the journey of our lives.”
Rev. Fr Tom Parecattil the principal of the college presented in brief the academic programme of the year 2017-2018. He initiated his presentation quoting various heroic personalities who have the guts to stand for worthy cause. During his presentation the principal gave the report of the performance of the last academic year.
Sr Alphonsa Vattoly SCCG, the resource person for the Key-note address spoke on “Growing in Spirituality and Academic Excellence”. She enriched our minds with her vast experience on education and she was able to grab the attention of all by sharing life examples of her own students. She narrowed down her long reflections in just two points : i) that we need to find God in everything and everyone, ii) that one needs to let God have his way in ones lives. Regarding academic excellence she told that everyone is capable of achieving the great purpose for which one is uniquely chosen. To make this grand purpose of each student a reality, she says that the student has to be focused and determined, and instead of walking one has to run.
Rev. Fr Thathireddy Vijaybhaskar, the president of the day’s programme gave a brief message. He summarized his speech in four points: Firstly, he thanked the teaching staff who served the college in the last academic year and welcomed the new academic staff. Secondly, he wished the teaching staff and the students ‘all the best’ as they together begin another year of journey into finding out and gaining knowledge. Thirdly, taking the example of Don Bosco, he insisted that we need to be courageous enough to become someone great in the future. Lastly, he advised the students to be focused in their philosophical studies and to gain as much knowledge as possible so that everyone may experience and learn maximum from this new academic year. The inaugural ceremony finally came to its conclusion with the singing of college anthem.
