On 18 December, 2017, Don Bosco Guntur, the mother house of the Province of St. Joseph, Hyderabad, had an enriching experience with the visit of Rev. Fr. Tom Uzhunnalil sdb. He had been held captive by terrorists for almost 18 months, which was followed by his miraculous release through the intervention of various authorities.

Fr Tom, who is still recovering from his captivity, made it a point to visit the house where he worked for a year,  to share his experiences of captivity and his profound internal transformation during the whole arduous experience. He arrived at Don Bosco Guntur at 4.30 p.m., where the Salesian Family was present to receive him. He then had tea with the Bishop of Guntur. At 5.45 pm we had the Eucharistic Celebration, presided over Rev. Fr. Tom. It was a blessing for all the faithful who devotedly participated in the eucharist. Rev. Fr. Tom in his homily spoke of the coming of Messiah; he then urged the faithful to see God in each and every person.

After the communion rite, Rev. Fr. Ch. Louis the rector, felicitated Rev. Fr. Tom. He also invited most Rev. Dr. Gali Bali the Bishop emeritus of Guntur diocese, who spoke about the faith and courage of a good Christian.

Finally Rev. Fr. Tom, gave his soul stirring witness. He declared that it was faith that sustained him during capitivity.  He spoke about God’s vision and the mission entrusted  to each and every one. He boldly witnessed that the living Lord Christ Jesus marvellously changed the hearts of ISIS Terrorists who kept him alive. He firmly believes that this new lease of life that God has granted him, is to be a powerful witness of His providence and His love.
