Don Bosco Prem Seva Sadan (DBPSS), Hayathnagar, Hyderabad, 11 October 2020: The International Girl child Day was celebrated at Hayathnagar. There were about 40 girls gathered from DBPSS Home and Don Bsoco Human Resource Development Centre (DBHRDC), Gagilapuram. The guests of honour were, Fr Thaithireddy Vijaya Bhaskar SDB – Salesian Provincial, Hyderabad, Fr Bellamkonda Sudhakar SDB – Executive Director BSK, Mrs Syamala Devi – CWC Chairperson, Hyderabad, Fr Thomas Remala SDB – Director, DBNJ Homes, Hyderabad, Fr Thomas Koshy SDB – Ex National Coordinator YaR forum, New Delhi; Fr Sarath Parri SDB – Province Vocation Promoter and Srs Princy and Sarada, In-charge of DBPSS.
Fr Sudhakar, in his message encouraged the girls to have positive attitude and mind set and explained with an anecdote on the movement of legs. Every time we take step the position of legs, so too our life. One must march with positive thinking and look towards future and speaking good of everyone.
Fr Thomas Koshy cited an example a girl who passed out of the home in Vijayawada and her true success story. Therefore, he said “it is our obligation and need of the hour to build their life and let us give them utmost respect to them”. Mrs Syamala Devi highlighted the importance of Girl Child Day. She said that there is an inequality in the family, and all have to work towards equality by treating everyone as equals.
Fr Thathireddy Vijaya Bhaskar began with a quote from Michelle Obama, wife of the former President, Barack Obama USA. She said Underlining the importance of women in nation-building and development “Any country that gives importance to women grows stronger, fosters in prosperity and turns out to be happier”. Similarly, studies have proven that men spend only 60% of their income for the family and development of the Society but women devote 95%. When a woman is educated, the entire family is educated. He said, “You must educate yourself well for your future”. He also appreciated work carried at DBPSS.
Girls performed cultural dances, singing and plays based on theme of the Day. Vote of thanks was proposed by Sr Princy. The chief guest and the guests of honour have distributed Food Kits for 68 migrant families who are working around our home.
The International Girl Child Day 2020 was concluded with sumptuous food to everyone. During the programme, the girls have highlighted birthday of Fr Provincial.
