Bosco Seva Kendra (BSK), Don Bosco Provincial House, Bandlaguda Jagir, 27 September 2020: The Salesian Province of Hyderabad through BSK, Planning and Development Office, has begun the second phase of Food & Nutrition Supplies to mark the World Day of Migration and Refugees through Salesian Houses in the State of Telangana. The 106th World Day of Migrants and Refugees (WDMR) is celebrated today with the title “Like Jesus Christ, forced to flee”, Pope Francis urges us this year to discover the reality of internally displaced people more deeply.

BSK planned to distribute food and nutrition supplies through all the Salesian Communities across the Province during its second phase. On this World Day of Migration and Refugees, the Salesian communities at Don Bosco Mission, Wyra, Don Bosco Junior College, Chandur, Don Bosco Philosophate, Karunapuram, Don Bosco Human Resource Development Centre (DBHRDC), Gagillapur, St Theresa’s Church, Sanathnagar, Don Bosco School, Motinagar, St Francis Xavier’s Church, Borabanda, Sacred Heart Novitiate, Manoharabad, Bosco Institute of Research and Development for Youth (BIRDY) and Don Bosco Provincial House, Bandlaguda Jagir have distributed Food, Nutrition and Health kits to 2210 families.

The Province is grateful to the Conrad Foundation for their financial support extended through Don Bosco Mission, Bonn, Germany. Their thoughtfulness and generosity to reach out to the neediest poor, migrants and destitutes who are affected by the C-Virus Pandemic is praiseworthy. During the distribution at Sacred Heart Novitiate, Manoharabad Rev Father Thathireddy Vijaya Bhaskar, sdb, the Salesian Provincial, Hyderabad has notably expressed his gratitude to the funding agency for their kind intervention. Likewise, Father Bellamkonda Sudhakar sdb, Executive Director-PDO, exhorted the beneficiaries to avoid the use of plastic while promoting degradable cloth bags. He too expressed his gratitude to the donors and supporting agencies for their timely help.

During the first phase from 26th March to 31st August 2020, the Province helped and accompanied more than 4.5 lakhs beneficiaries through the Salesian Communities, Civil authorities, Civil Society Organizations, religious communities through distribution of Food Essentials, Cooked Food, Nutrition & Health kits, Face Masks and offering the premises for community markets.

C-Virus has devastated millions of people’s lives throughout the world. We read, heard, and personally witnessed their struggle – loss of work, shortage of necessities, no means of transportation, lack of medical requirements during the first phase of distribution of essential food supplies. Above all, thousands of people walked miles to meet their loved ones facing many challenges on the way. Crossing the inter-state and intra-state borders was the most hard and difficult task due to lockdown imposed by the Central and state governments. Most of them are unemployed as they lost their livelihood that affected their families at large directly or indirectly.

At this juncture, the Province is fortunate in extending their support in reaching out to people who are struggling due to C-Virus pandemic through its funding partners Conrad Foundation and Don Bosco Mission, Bonn, Germany.
