Hyderabad, Jul. 9. The students of Vishwa Jyothi Don Bosco College, Karunapuram, in the Salesian Province of Hyderabad, joined in a blood donation drive aptly titled “Donate Blood – Save Life“ on 8 July, 2014. The donation was made possible through the cooperation and collaboration of the Indian Red Cross Society, Warangal. 62 students of Philosophy donated their blood during the programme, most of whom were doing it for the first time in their life.
The team of the Red Cross, comprising of a leading Doctor and five other medical personnel, were quite inquisitive about the serene and joyful atmosphere prevailing in the campus. They not only admired the very act of giving blood but the way in which the students went about it. On being informed that the students were all involved in a process of training for a life-long service, they were very much touched and all the more appreciative of this voluntary gesture.
The donation which commenced at 11 am concluded just before tea at 3.15 pm. The heads of all the institutions whose students converge at Don Bosco, Karunapuram for their Philosophical and Degree studies, consented to the participation of their members in this programme. Besides the Salesians (SDBs), there were Diocesans, and Brothers from the various congregations like Sons of the Divine Saviour (SDS), and societies like Mill Hill Missionaries (MHM), Fathers of the Holy Cross (CSC), and Society of the Holy Spirit (SHS) participating in the blood donation programme. Fr Mallavarapu Rayanna SDB, the Rector of the Salesian Philosophate and the College, made all the necessary arrangements for this noble deed.
