Eucharistic Lord, taken in procession, adored, worshipped
by the clergy, religious and the faithful of Vijayawada
To mark the conclusion of the Year of Faith, a big Eucharistic procession and adoration was held on 27, October 2013 in Vijayawada. The initiative was taken by Rev. Fr. Thota Mariadas SDB, the parish priest of Pezzonipet. The entire parish of Assumption Church, Pezzonipet prepared for it with a month-long prayer, fasting, chain Rosary, adoration by the people and different sections of the pious associations in the parish. Under the leadership of the parish Priest, the council members and youth did a wonderful work in preparing, arranging, decorating and publishing about the event. It was the biggest Eucharistic procession and public Eucharistic adoration ever held in the history of Vijayawada.
It was made a joint venture from the co-cathedral vicariate. Faithful from the vicariate parishes and the city parishes attended the Eucharistic adoration. Against all odds of inclement weather the faithful, religious and clergy dared to witness to the Eucharistic Lord, by walking the four-kilometre distance procession from Pappulamill Centre, Pezzonipet to St. Ann’s School grounds, Ajithsingh Nagar. The Eucharist was placed in a beautifully decorated cart that looked like the ark of the covenant of the Old Testament. The gathering walked singing praises and worship to the Bread of Life. On reaching the venue for adoration, Rev. Fr. Pasala Thomas and team led the faithful into an explosion of praise and worship for two hours. The students of RCM School, Pezzonipet, added to the piety and holy mirth by their devotional dances. Most Rev. Govindu Joji DD, the apostolic administrator of Vijayawada carried the monstrance to a short distance, gave a message on the importance of the Holy Eucharist and gave the solemn blessing of the Eucharistic Lord. Symbolic to the Eucharist, sweet buns were distributed to the faithful.
Kudos to Fr. Thota Mariadas, who against all odds of inclement weather, and various other difficulties that crept in, made the event into an Yagnam of Eucharist with detailed planning, long preparations, involving people and mobilizing people to participate. Of course his team of council members, Youth and the parish priest of Ajithsingh Nagar, St. Ann’s sisters of Luzern, Ajithsingh Nagar had their share of cooperation. May the faithful, reap abundantly from the field of Eucharist in the Catholic Church.
