Hyderabad, Dec. 2. Employees of Accenture and Deloitte took a day off from their white-collar job to soil their hands with and for the children of Don Bosco rehabilitation home at Ramanthapur on 15 November 15. Some of them were so enchanted by the vitality of these children that they pledged to be regular weekend volunteers. The two different companies visited Don Bosco Navajeevan, Ramanthapur on different dates but with the same intention: know and share life better with the children. On 15 November 15 about a 175 young and energetic employees of Accenture spend time from dawn to dusk painting three study halls and all the furniture of the house. While some painted, others spent time talking with the children understanding them, motivating, and encouraging them to live life to the full.
One of the volunteers while painting commented, “We are happy about our effort in painting because we made our outer part (hands) dirty in order to make the inner part (rooms) clean”. The best part of the day was the sharing of the fraternal lunch which brought everyone much closer to one another.
The Director of the Home Fr Bellamkonda Sudhakar spent some time elucidating about the work done at Don Bosco Navajeevan and about the bicentenary celebrations of the birth of St John Bosco. He also thanked them for their thoughtfulness in coming over to the Home to spend time, energy and resources, and offer a witness of noble service. After a spontaneous discussion a group of 25 of them wholeheartedly decided to come every Sunday to be with the boys and to teach them.
The visit and programme was facilitated by Mr Pradeep Antony, an employee with Accenture and a good friend of Don Bosco Navajeevan. The other group which has now made it an annual feature was Deloitte. Every year Deloitte employees celebrate IMPACT DAY on 28 November. On this day the employees divide themselves and visit the three Navajeevan homes in the twin cities, at New Bhoiguda, Nampally and Ramanthapur. This year about 30 volunteers visited each of the homes.
On IMPACT Day, they take the opportunity to celebrate Corporate Social Responsibility because it not only helps them to act as responsible business citizens, but also complements their culture and leadership potential. They relive their conviction, `Community – It`s our business`. They spend their valuable time with our children. They played party games and sang songs with the children. All the boys and volunteers enthusiastically participated in all the activities. During lunch all the volunteers served food for boys. At Don Bosco, Ramanthapur, they also played a football match with the boys.
Fr Sudhakar addressed them separately in the different centres, informing them about the bicentenary celebrations and the crystal anniversary (1999-2014) of the Navajeevan homes in Hyderabad-Secunderabad and thanked them for making time to be with the children and for being concerned about the boys.
