Bosco Seva Kendra, Hyderabad, Provincial House, 24-26 September 2019: Bosco Seva Kendra, the Development and Outreach Office of the Salesian Province of St. Joseph, Hyderabad, organized the inaugural workshop of the CSO Programme on the 24th to 26th September at Don Bosco Provincial House, Hyderabad. The CSO Programme seeks to develop a long term network of different CSOs (Civil Society Organizations or NGOs) operating in our region to advance the welfare of the poor and marginalized in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Southern Odisha. The Programme involves providing professional training and development to CSO partners to advance this shared vision and the professional standards of their respective organization in terms of how they undertake their outreach.
Bosco Seva Kendra welcomed 25 of different organizations and institutions working in rural and urban areas in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. On the 24th, the inaugural workshop began at 9:20am, with an introductory speech by Fr Sudhakar Bellamkonda, the Executive Director of Bosco Seva Kendra. He spoke about the importance that all participants in attendance master the various training programmes and related materials that will be provided during the course of this programme and in other workshops to come during the coming year. He emphasized the fact that the attendees in this workshop would have to return to their respective organizations and train other CSOs to work and partner with us using the materials and content covered during this programme.
Fr Sudhakar also talked about the importance of working together collectively to make a difference to the poor and marginalized in India. He said that only through collective cooperation can one improve our outreach and advance the welfare of the country. After the inaugural speech, Fr Sudhakar welcomed the resource person for the day Mr Subhash Chandra, Director of Carped Foundation. Mr Subhash is a respected thought leader in social outreach, with close to three decades of experience in advancing the welfare of the poor, women and children in our region. Mr Subhash has been involved and engaged with numerous Government organizations in India and global development agencies such as the World Bank and the UN.
Followed by this introduction, a short common prayer was given followed by more details concerning the nature of the CSO Programme. After this, certain guests were invited on to the stage to light the lamp followed by the start of the training programme on ‘Participatory Approach’. All participants were provided with resource materials and related materials for the programme over the course of three days.
