Motinagar 28 February, 2023: ‘Everything is possible when we have the required strength. Though the Sociological changes are happening quickly around the world, we need to have a clear vision in mind to march forward for the next 25 years’ said the Rector Major, Fr. Angel Fernandez Artime at the Salesian family meeting on 28 February at Don Bosco School, Motinagar.
Addressing the Salesians of Hyderabad province, Rector Major said that the province is on the path of growth and responsible and coherent. The province is like a human person which undergoes different stages of life and needs a lot of growth. The province is becoming robust over the years in numbers as well as in the growth of communities. There is a tremendous growth from my previous visit to the present. To continue this growth, we need to keep in mind that vocations will not come spontaneously like earlier days, needed personal accompaniment in the present age. He added
The 10th successor exhorted that when the mission does not grow, the option is not to leave and go away but one should guarantee the charismatic identity in every house. Even though the Salesian may not be present physically the charism should go on. He cited an example from his life experience as the provincial of Argentina. In Buenos Aires, where Pope Francis studied, at present there are no Salesians but the charism of Salesians continues. He challenges the gathering to get ready for a different future.
The Rector Major said that the greatest strength of the congregation is youth, especially the poor youth. He congratulated the provincial for living up to that in the province. He also reminded that the province’s strength is confreres and should look after them well.
The information about the Salesian congregation is shared by the head of the congregation. The Indian provinces are also facing at present what had happened in Europe 50 years ago. The African provinces are growing in numbers. There is lot of serenity and consolidation in the congregation.
Speaking to the Salesian family that consists of Salesians, FMA sisters, Sisters of Mary Immaculate, MSMHC, Co-operators, ADMA, Past pupils, School staff, youth, and children, the 10th successor of Don Bosco said never be pessimistic about life but always be hopeful. As members of the Salesian family, we need to become the agents hope in society. “Let us be happy people and live our vocation beautifully in family life and give a witness through our own life. You are the most important group in the Salesian Family. You are the big force in the Salesian family” said Fr Artime to the family people.
A book titled ‘Youth-Abhyudayam’, penned by Bro Gregory SDB, was released to mark the occasion of the visit of the Rector Major. The book was released by the 10th Successor and copies were given to a few dignitaries.
