Bosco Seva Kendra, MACS, Vijayawada, 18th – 19th December 2023: Bosco Seva Kendra (BSK) hosted a transformative workshop for Mutually Aided Cooperative Societies (MACs) on December 18th and 19th, 2023, in Chiguru, Vijayawada, marking a significant step toward community development and financial empowerment. This annual event, aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and outreach of micro-credit programs, brought together a diverse group of participants for two days of innovative thinking and strategic planning.
Under the leadership of Fr Sarath, PDO, and Fr Thomas Santiagu, Provincial of Hyderabad, the workshop explored new avenues to revolutionize the functioning and impact of MACs. Key focus areas included women’s empowerment, integration with government schemes, and livelihood enhancement initiatives, identified as crucial for the comprehensive development of communities served by these cooperatives.
The workshop’s format encouraged intimate discussions and brainstorming sessions, allowing participants to share ideas and develop actionable program proposals aligned with the workshop’s themes. This collaborative environment underscored the potential for collective efforts to drive significant change. These proposals, once refined, are set to be presented to the MACS Board of Directors and Self-Help Group leaders, anticipating a meaningful impact on financial empowerment, community upliftment, and social development. The workshop highlighted the evolving role of MACs from mere financial aid providers to key players in holistic community development, addressing social, economic, and educational growth.
As the event concluded, it was evident that MACs are envisioned to be more than financial institutions; they are crucial to the narrative of community empowerment. The Chiguru workshop stood as a testament to the power of collaboration and the enduring spirit of communities working towards a brighter future, setting a clear path for the role of MACs in fostering community development and empowerment.
