Kaladarshini, Vijayawada 11 – 12 November: On the occasion of the Silver Jubilee of Kaladarshini, Vijayawada, a symposium on Liturgical music was conducted by Loyola College, Vijayawada at Kaladarshini, Vijayawada. The Archbishop of Visakhapatnam, Fr. Mallavaraopu Prakash, The Bisop of Kurnool Fr. Poola Anthony, The Bishop of Nalgonda Fr. Govind Joji and the Bishop of Kadapa Fr. G. Prasad were the guests of honour of the day. The key note address was delivered by Fr. Jose Sebastian SJ the founder of Kaldarsini emphasis on, “In-culturation in Telugu Liturgical music is needed.”
The Bishop of Kadapa the chair Person for Liturgy said that, “Liturgical music should be in line with the teachings of Vat II”. The Bishop of Kurnool encourages Kaladarshini team by saying, “TCBC thought of having such renewal programme. But we are happy that Kaladarshini has come forward with such an initiative. We will carry out whatever suggestions are made in this meeting.” The Archbishop of Visakhapatnam added his view by saying, “Liturgical music should be based on Bible. Now-a-days people long for devotional Liturgical music to satisfy their Spiritual needs”. The Bishop of Nalgonda added, “Hymns should be based on day’s Gospel and not enough any devotional hymns”. Fr. Paspullati Francis brought out the defects in today’s liturgical music. Fr. Pakiraj SJ mentioned about the type of hymns that should be used in our Eucharist celebration.
Some of the musicians, instrumentalist, choir members and lyryces were invited and were appreciated for their contribution in the Liturgical music. Fr. Vatacula Gnanapragasam SDB was one among them and he was felicitated by the Bishop of Kadapa for his contribution to Telugu Liturgical music through Pranathulu vol 1to 6 to the Church of Andhra Pradesh.
