An open forum was organised by PARA to enable direct interface between Human Rights Club Office Bearers and functionaries of the Juvenile Justice Board. Over two days, 26-27 March, 2015, sessions were held for children from Ranga Reddy District and Hyderabad respectively, at the Govt. Observation Home for Boys, Saidabad, Hyderabad.
Close to 40 officials representing different government and enforcement agencies viz., Depts of Women Development and Child Welfare, Education, Revenue, Child Welfare Committees, and NGOs working on childrens issues viz., ChildLine, Divya Disha, Ashrita, etc. participated in this unique initiative.
The program was planned as part of the ongoing ‘action2015’ initiatives with the aim of sensitizing the officials to the realities faced by children, while making the children aware of the various provisions made by the government and law enforcement agencies specially to safeguard the interests of children.
Children were able to share some of the cases they encounter at their level. One such case presented by a HRC member from Ranga Reddy District was of Nandini, a 13 yr-old child being sold for Rs.50,000 by her mother. The District Child Protection Officer assured that he would look into the case and took complete details of the case.
