The meeting was held in ITI campus, Gunadala, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. There were about 400 religious fathers, brothers and sisters who were part of this AGB. The first day was the General Body meeting in which key issues and specific areas of concern were discussed and passed. Historically, Conference of Religious India was the initiative of Pope Pius XII who called a conference of religious at Rome in 1950 and recommended setting us of national conference of major superiors. The first joint meeting was at Delhi in 1962. In 1963 the Holy See formally erected CRI by approving its statutes. The same year (1963), it became a registered society under the Societies Registration Act of 1860.

The Conference of Religious India which was established in 1963 has been accomplishing the task of animation of religious congregations. The CRI launched into a new phase of revitalization since 1992 National assembly in Calcutta. This re-vitalization of CRI was a felt need in the context of the changing realities of India so that the prophetic role and response of religious congregations may become more concrete. This has led to a more participatory approach at the regional and local levels. The reorganized structure of CRI at local and regional levels offers more possibilities of working for creating a society where kingdom values of love, justice, equality, freedom and peace are lived and catering to smaller priority groups and in the local context on specific issues. Regional CRI is an affiliate of the national CRI. Andhra Telangana Regional CRI is situated in Begumpet.

The Goals of the ATRCRI include:

1. To bring together the clergy, Religious and laity in their work in proclaiming the Word of God and Gospel values to the society.
2. To make combined effort to achieve more fully the purpose of the group or organization.
3. To co-ordinate and collaborate the work.

Let’s wish Fr Thathireddy Vijaya Bhaskar, our provincial and his team to lead the ATCRI towards profound animation of all the congregations in Andhra and Telangana states.
