Goa, 23 October 2019: Archbishop Felipe Neri Ferrao inaugurated the 44th annual research seminar of the Association of Christian Philosophers of India (ACPI) at the St Joseph Vaz Spiritual Renewal Centre in Old Goa. The Archbishop was the Chief Guest and delivered the inaugural address, after lighting the traditional lamp.
The theme of the seminar is: “Philosophizing Science: Promises, Perils and Possibilities”. The papers to be presented aim to provide a philosophical critique of science from diverse yet wholesome Indian and Christian perspectives. They will point towards beneficial as well as dysfunctional aspects of various features and disciplines of science.
At the three-day seminar Professor Fr Job Kozhamthadam, SJ, gave the keynote address. He stressed the complementary nature of philosophy and science. In his inaugural address, the Archbishop stressed the need for philosophy, science and faith to work together for a better world.
Last year’s ACPI collection of research papers on the theme “Philosophies of Transformative Practice: Social Movements in India” edited by Fr Dr Jose Maliekal sdb, released by the Archbishop in the form of a book.
Earlier Dr. Keith D’Souza, SJ, President ACPI, welcomed the paper presenters, the participants and the Chief Guest. Rev. Fr. Henry Falcao, Director of the Renewal Centre too welcomed all the participants and gave a glimpse of the history and logistics of the Centre.
