Bosco Seva Kendra, Don Bosco Provincial House, 20 October 2010: Fr Sudhakar, Mounika, Renuka. Divya, Nita, Sonia and Plus1 & Plus2 Girls and their parents were the participants in this programme.
All the Plus girls gathered by 10.30 am, there was almost full attendance although a bus strike was on its rise in the city. The day started with the entire team welcoming Nita, Sonia and Divya. Fr Sudhakar had handed over bouquets to them and felicitated each of them with a shawl. There was an informal morning Refreshments session for everyone before they started the presentation. Fr Sudhakar made a presentation on “The Four Candles” that explains about Love, Faith and Hope. He explained to the girls the importance of never giving up on Hope. After that, Renuka made a presentation on Effective Communication. Some videos explaining the importance of the same were shown. Renuka also conducted some games – Picture Talk, Draw a picture, and correct the English and IQ tests. Children participated with lot of energy and excitement. Around 1 o clock, a delicious lunch was served and snapped several pictures and videos. Nita and Sonia took interviews of the girls individually asking them about their association with BSK-KAP.
Post Lunch session started with Mounika and Sonia giving a Class on Self Defence and its importance. Children were demonstrated some simple techniques of self-defence. Sonia also gave some useful tips to the girls on self-protection. Girls were so motivated to meet Sonia – who is part of Teen-KAP in USA. Sonia is 16 years old and had so much to share with them and encourage them. It was wonderful to see how they connected with her. Later, Divya conducted few games to help the girls become more open and friendly. All the girls exhaustively enjoyed and promised to be more communicative. Nita got gifts for the girls – A Smiley ball and lots of chocolates. The day ended with cake-cutting moment of the girls who celebrate their birthday in the month of October. Team BSK-KAP gifted the birthday girls with a wrist watch. The day ended with refreshments promising to stay connected and learn from each other.
After the girls left, Team BSK-KAP had their internal staff meeting, where the budget and strategies to bring on new girls for the next year were discussed. It also discussed on adding a few more schools to identify potential girls for the programme. Apart from Wings School being the feed school of BSK-KAP, there was a proposal to add at least 3-4 other schools as the Feed Schools for the programme. It was decided to identify such schools and conduct Career Counselling Sessions for students from Grade 8 onwards. This initiative would help to stay connected with potential girls who are suitable for a programme and can assist them to pick the right subjects at a Plus2 level, thereby helping their career.
Another important issue discussed was about the existing children being unclear with their career goals, because of which they do not secure good grades. The KAP Management suggested us to come up with innovative ways of keeping them motivated. One idea that came up from Sonia was to connect them with Teen-KAP. Where the girls could get on a Skype call once a month and interact with the girls (part of Teen-KAP) in USA. In the Skype call, they will be learning something new from them every month. As an outcome of the meeting the BSK-KAP team in India would prepare a budget for the Academic Year 2020-21 and share with the KAP team shortly.
