Don Bosco Pre-Novitiate, Wyra, 27 October 2019: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, will have light of life” (John 8:12)

Diwali is a festival of lights, the pre-novices started the day with the lighting of lamp in the chapel during Morning prayers. In the evening at 7:15 pm a service of light was organized in which FMA sisters and hostel children participated. Fr Sebastian welcomed everyone. Words of introduction on the theme of light gave an insight into the celebration.

The lamps were lit by representatives of different groups. The Light Service started with a Bhajan that denoted everybody to be lights for others. During the service, a passage was read related to the theme of light. A powerful message that it is better to light a small candle rather than blame darkness was convincingly communicated to the participants.

The Pre-Novices prayed for the nation using the words of Brihadharanyaka Upanishad: Lead me, from the unreal to real, from darkness to light, from death to immortality. Bhajan-singing added to the beauty of the celebrations. After the dinner, keeping in mind the restrictions of the sound and air-pollution they had a variety of colour crackers. It was indeed a splendid Diwali celebration.

With words of Tagore the day ended on a note of joy “In the dance of your festival of lights, my heart will throb and my life will be one with your smile.”
