Don Bosco School, Badndlaguda Jagir, Hyderabad, 20 & 22 February 2020: The Annual Sports Day of Don Bosco School, Bandlaguda, was a celebration spread over two days, the 20th and 22nd of February 2020. The unique feature of this year’s event was the colourful message-based drill displays, designed to create awareness and inculcate strong moral and social values among our students.
The opening day began with the Guard of Honor and greeting of our Chief Guest, Shri Mahendar Goud, Mayor of Bandlaguda Jagir, who accompanied by his wife Shrimati Ramadevi, Guests of Honor and Reverend Fathers from St Joseph’s Province. The Correspondent of our school, Rev. Fr Thomas Santiagu delivered the welcome address. Shri Mahendar Goud declared the sports day open which was followed by a torch relay by our sports achievers of the year.
A march past led by the school team and Scouts and Guides, to the tune of the school band, ushered in the display of our students’ sports skills and talents. The first Scouts and Guides unit of our school demonstrated various techniques like rope knotting, pyramid formations and casualty carry methods preceding the Karate and Yoga display.
The Chief Guest for the second day was Shri Ashok Chakravarthy, Asst. Commissioner of Police, Rajendranagar and the Guest of Honor was Rev. Sister Swarna, Superior of the Sisters of Charity. The Principal of our school, Rev. Fr Chinnappa presented his Annual Report which highlighted the achievements of the academic year. The school’s outstanding academic results received an enthusiastic applause from the parents.
The thematic drill display by our class 1-4 students depicted the Harmony and Beauty of Nature with our tiny tots in colourful costumes: animals, trees, birds, butterflies, ocean creatures, seasons and even a rainbow formation all cheerfully came together in a spectacular grand finale to highlight the need to conserve God’s abundant blessing and gift of nature. The theme for the second day was Harmony Among People with a celebration of diverse cultures. Beginning with the Pangea and the formation of continents, Class 5 to 9 students presented uniquely choreographed drills and dances from each continent before coming together in their grand finale to draw attention to the need for Peace and Unity among nations.
The Annual Sports Day concluded with the awarding of medals and certificates to all our student achievers. This event brought the school together in a splendid display of talents, physical fitness and comradely. The message echoing through the drill displays of peace and harmony was a memorable moment of Don Bosco School’s Annual Sports Day 2020.
