Don Bosco, Muniguda, 26 February 2020: All baptized Christians are called to be missionaries (to witness to Christ’s love). God calls some to a special ministry that invites them to leave their people, culture and place to spread the Good News of the Gospel. Missionaries witness to the Gospel, not only through preaching verbally, but also through their love, care and concern for the towards the people of God. The motto of the missionaries is the mandate given by Christ: “Go into the entire world and preach the Good News to all Creation.” (Mk 16:15)

Therefore, the Salesians of Don Bosco carry out the mission command of Jesus at St Theresa Catholic Parish, Muniguda of the diocese of Rayagada. The total Catholic parish is spread over 60 square kilometres radius. There are 158 families in the parish. The number of Catholics in each village though not big, the Salesians do celebrate the Eucharist and administer other Sacraments. The parish serves mostly tribal Catholics. All of them are first generation Catholics and so they need evangelization in the traditions and devotions of Catholicism. Towards this end, the Salesians had a good beginning of Lent.

On Ash Wednesday, there was a Holy Eucharist with ashes celebrated by priest and prayer service with ashes conducted by catechists. During the Ash Wednesday service, the faithful were invited to: a) fast from food and all other habits which prevent them to be good human being, b) to pray to God to become God’s Children, c) to give alms for it is pleasing to God. This year in a novel way Fr Mallavarapu Anil, the Parish Priest conducted a mobile way of the Cross on the roads in the villages on every Friday. The way of the cross infused in the Catholics the true spirit of Lent to be and become like Jesus. The real challenge is to evangelize in the true Catholicism.
