St Michael’s Boys’ Home, Guntur, 8 April 2020: The country enters day sixteen of the 21-day nation-wide lockdown facing the challenges of Covid-19 in taking measures to prevent the virus spreading. Although the country struggles to cope with the economic fallout of the national lock-down imposed to curb the coronavirus pandemic, several companies, job holders, individuals and prominent celebrities have pitched in to help the country in the form of pledging their salaries, or donating towards medical relief and equipment. Similarly, the Salesians of Don Bosco at Guntur paved the way as they extended monetary help towards the fight against Covid-19.
“It is my appeal to my fellow Indians…, kindly contribute to the PM-Cares Fund. This Fund will also cater to similar distressing situations, if they occur in the times ahead,” tweeted the India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Inspired by this call by the Prime Minister and the invitation of CM Jagan Mohan Reddy of the State of Andhra Pradesh, Parish council of Sahaya Matha Shrine on behalf of the Parishioners under the leadership of the Parish Priest Rev Fr Medabalimi Balaswamy at Guntur donated Rs. 1,00,000 to AP Chief Minster’s Relief Fund to the Honourble Home Minister Smt Mekathoti Sucharitha at her residence in Nava Bharat Nagar, Guntur.
In addition, offered Rs. 1000/- for thirteen poor people; fed 100 poor people of the locality in association with Guntur Diocesan Social Service Centre for one day, donated Rs.10,000/- to the PM Cares Fund; lent the playground for the vendors to sell the vegetables for the people around on the request of the Collector; donated Rs.30,000/- worth groceries to the Guntur Muncipal Corporation to distribute to the poor during this lock-down.
