Don Bosco Navajeevan, Ramanthapur, 8 April 2020: The Salesians working for the street children at the Rehabilitation Centre, Ramanthapur supported the transgenders from Jagathgirigutta, Kukkatpally.

Covid-19 is frightening, as the number of infected is on its rapid rise. On the contrary there are millions of marginalized Indians existing without a safety net that most of the transgenders are taken for granted and forgotten by the society. The transgender community is one such section of society that is at the roads of this crisis, looking for someone to help and come their rescue. Therefore, the daily livelihood of the transgender community is at stake with the lockdown in place.

Most of them work in the unorganised sectors. They are involved in traditional begging in the trains, work as manual labourers, construction workers, machine operators, assemblers and truck drivers. Their work requires them to frequent crowded places – railway stations, markets, and more. Without doing this, the transgender community will not be able to earn daily wages and have access to food and essentials.

To such vulnerable groups as this transgender community, the Don Bosco Navajeevan distributed essential groceries viz., Rice 200 kg, Dal 50 kg, Wheat Flour 50 Kg, and Oil 50 ltrs. They were about 50 from Jagathgirigutta.
