BIRDY, Bandlaguda Jagir, Hyderabad, 20 April 2020: Bosco Institute of Research and Development for Youth (BIRDY) has been reaching out to the youth, youth leaders and Youth Animators of Telugu States over two decades, and now serving as a Secretariat of the Province of St Joseph.

The Corona Virus pandemic has an extensive impact on workforce universally. Among them are the migrant workers bearing the effect of the crisis. Various organizations like Human Rights have expressed their concern that migrant workers are unduly at risk from the impact of the pandemic, due to insufficient and crowded living conditions, lockdowns and harsh control measures, lack of healthcare and basic services and unfair labour systems.

At this point, BIRDY has stepped in and distributed basic provision kits to the migrant families in its premises at BIRDY and in Sai Ram Nagar Colony, Yadava Mitra Nagar. These migrants hail from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh,West Bengal and Bihar who temporarily reside at St Michael’s Colony, Bandlaguda Jagir, Hyderabad. Fr Rayappa, the Rector and Parish Priest led the Salesian community in the presence of Mr Narender, the Corporator for Ward-19 (St Michael’s Colony, Abhyudayanagar Colony-Phase-1, Sandhyanagar, Arul Colony) Fr Thathireddy Vijaya Bhaskar, the Provincial, Fr Bellamkonda Sudhakar, Director-BSK and the Parish Councillors of Don Bosco Shrine in offering the provisions. The migrants expressed their gratitude to the Salesians.
