Bosco Institute of Research and Development for Youth (BIRDY), Hyderabad, 24 August 2020: Don Bosco Social Communications Department with its DB Pravahini Centre announced today an online Short Film Festival with a title “Colours of Life”. It starts from 24 August to 7 October 2020 and will leave a lasting impact on participants and onlookers long after the lights go up at their screenings instantly. This year’s short film line-up will include two topics for the contest viz., Life in Covid-19 and Save Nature- Save Future.

Don Bosco Pravahini is the Social Communication Department of the province of Hyderabad situated at BIRDY was officially inaugurated on 18th November 2016. Pravahini is the medium enabling the flow of communication. It facilitates the proclamation of the gospel message and values to the young in the way of Don Bosco. It maintains and efficiently empowers the process of animation, information, production, and networking in the field of Social Communication. It makes use of the instruments of mass media and new technologies more effectively in the service of the Salesian mission.

Fr Ashok sdb, the director, Don Bosco Pravahini welcoming the guests of honour in the curtain raiser programme for the Short Film Festival stated that the youth to go in the running to win, submit a 7-minute short film, a behind-the-scenes film featuring given themes. The themes for the short film festival are so relevant and meaningful that the Film could be made in any language with English subtitles. He said, “we want you to push the limits of your creativity, explore new territory, and show us a film that blows us away”.  

Fr Noel Maddhichetty, the former provincial unveiled the curtain along with Fr Thathireddy Vijaya Bhaskar, the Provincial declaring the Short Film Festival open. Fr Noel said, “The human life which is affected by Covid-19 and the nature that is also in danger due to Global warming and exploitation of natural resources. Therefore, the entire world needs a wakeup call to protect and life and conserve nature. Thus, this Short Film Festival focuses conveys values on Saving life and sustaining Nature”.

Similarly, Fr Thathireddy Vijaya Bhaskar in his message told that the world is ahead of times by twenty years in technology and communication, due to Covid-19. He also mentioned that the technology is rapidly on its rise to the extent of capturing feature film even with a smart phone with all the showcases. The title of the Short Film colours of life reflects a mixture of colours with core values: Red – Passion, Love, Anger; Orange – Energy, Happiness, Vitality; Yellow – Happiness, Hope, Deceit; Green – New Beginnings, Abundance, Nature.

The curtain raiser ceremony ended with launching of the Website http://dbpcolorsoflife.com, Face Book, Twitter and Instagram and release of the Promos of the online Short Film Festival in view of online campaign.

Fr Ashok in his vote of thanks while thanking everyone in preparation of this event, exhorted the participants to visit website to follow the guidelines (regarding films), registration and submission.
