Don Bosco Navajeevan (DBNJ), 23 August 2020: The most Negative word of 2020 is POSITIVE. The major misfortune one may think of in 2020 is facing the disastrous outbreak of COVID-19. The entire globe was paralyzed in every way as this pandemic badly hit the economic growth. We started living a more surprised and supervised life. Hand full of us revised our manners of eating, drinking, playing, working, sleeping, meeting and spending.

Navajeevan Vijayawada, made a research on vaccine to face the financial slowdown which can progressively deliver steps to stay strong. The College girls created a blueprint to address this issue on how to fight the poverty and make a living.

Accepting the suggestions of the inmates, Navajeevan facilitated to sweeten their dreams to make it happen. In order to fast track implementation of their dreams, the inmates were trained in Bakery and Sweets making. Children were very enthusiastic and interested in learning the new skill. A month of training with minimum investment on equipment and skill set, children started to throw the idea to market their products as they were impressed by their tasty products. Innovative participatory mechanisms created new paths in development and empowerment.

As the obsolete dictum goes “Think Global and Act Local” the girls hit the market to test their products and show case their talent in a very meagre mode by erecting a small canopy. The results brought a big smile on the faces of our girls as their products evaporated. As Kassem said, “A heart without dreams is like a bird without feathers”. Let us empower our girls if you want to power y/our pockets.
