Hyderabad, Aug 8: Twenty films from eight countries including India, screened at the Don Bosco Bicentenary International Short Film Festival of India (DBISFFI). On 8 August, simultaneously at 55 locations all over India, these 20 films are screened from 9 am to 6 pm. The film festival was held at Don Bosco Shrine, Bandlaguda, Hyderabad, with film Actor and Comedian Mr. Siva Reddy as the Chief Guest.
200 years of Don Bosco Birth marks as a charismatic approach towards the young in transforming their lives all over the world. Today there are over 50,000 members in the society he founded, working in over 132 countries. His followers stepped into the Indian subcontinent in 1906, and these 108 years of existence have wrought in marvelous fruits of growth, peace and development all over India.
The DBSFFI is a unique attempt to mark this year as a tribute to Don Bosco. Networking in 55 venues spread over 18 states, the idea is to reach out simultaneously to lakhs of people on the same day, August 8. A total of 62 contributions from India, USA, UK, Australia, Uzbekistan, Spain, Switzerland and Poland, have been received and resulting in 20 short-listed for the final screenings.
Film is a powerful media that can communicate, educate, elevate and inspire the viewers. The theme of the film festival is the celebration of the spirit of youth in a positive and inspiring way, narrating stories of young people who face challenges and struggles of life with courage, determination and faith to emerge as inspiring individuals.
This short film festival was screened for the first time in Don Bosco India and also in our Province of Hyderabad. Most of the participants were young people associated with Don Bosco, from our colleges, youth centers, Parishes and film lovers too. The spirit of the festival is to infuse in young people new hops, optimism and positive energy to live as good citizens and God fearing persons, which was Don Bosco’s dream for every youngster.
The DBSFFI was organized by the Social Communication department of the Province, net-working with the National Communication department of South Asia. The Social Communication department of the Province thank the President, Fr. Provincial, Chief Guest Mr. Siva Reddy Actor and Comedian, Mr. Gopu Bala Reddy Industrialist, Benefactor and friend, Mr. Shranik Rao and Prof. Clement Babu. In a special way we thank Fr. Economer, Fr. Thathireddy Vijaya Bhaskar, Fr. Bellamkonda Sudhakar, Fr. Govindu Joseph, Fr. Limgampalli Ashok and Fr. Medi Sleevaraju for extending their helping hand and for being part of the organizing committee.
