Children shouldn’t work in fields, but on dreams!


Don Bosco, Navajeevan, Vijayawada, June 12 to 18, 2019: Navajeevan played a lead role in organizing a week-long campaign against child labour in the Krishna district in AP, as part of World Day Against Child Labour 2019. The campaign was done in collaboration with the Forum for Child Rights, its member NGOs and CHILDLINE – Vijayawada. The officials of Labour, National Child Labour Project, Child Welfare Committee, District Child Protection Unit of Women Development and Child Welfare, Revenue, Education, Juvenile Welfare, South Central Railway and the other government departments participated. The campaign was inaugurated by Mr MD Imtiaz IAS – the District Collector, at a workshop in Sub-Collectors Office – Vijayawada, participated by various GOs and NGOs.

Navajeevan Child Safety Net (CSN) project team and the collaborating NGOs, during the week-long campaign, organised rallies, signature campaigns, debates and workshops on Right to Education Act, evils of child marriage, etc. The campaign covered project’s 135 villages/slum communities of 18 rural mandals and Vijayawada urban.

The campaign ended on 18th June with a Press Brief and Convergence meeting of representatives of GOs and NGOs. The meeting was presided by Mr Subramanian – District Commissioner of Labour. Rev Fr N Ratna – the Executive Director of Navajeevan, Rev Fr Balashowry – the former Executive Director of Navajeevan, Mr B.V.S. Kumar – CWC Chairperson and representatives of CSN partnering NGOs were also present. On the occasion, the Forum for Child Rights organized a grand farewell to Fr Balashowry who was the Vice-President of the Forum for the last six years and a former CWC – Member for three years. Fr Ratna has taken over the position of Vice-President of the Forum from Fr Balashowry.
